Here's an article my hubby, Steve, wrote. I thought you might like it.
Lately, we’ve talked about ways to write a better PDF ebook. PDF e-books can be bulked up with a list of resources and a table of contents, which increases customer satisfaction. Now that you’ve added those, let’s look at other ways to make your readers happy, which increases sales and prevents returns and refunds.
First, make sure that you use 12-point text (Times New Roman is the best choice for large sections of text). Make all pictures and graphics large, so they are easy to read. That’s a valuable service to your readers, one that also adds bulk to your book. Make your information interesting and entertaining by adding graphics, comics, and more. This is an important consideration when designing or developing information products.
“Johnson boxes” are those little boxes which include an important point, separated from the rest of the text for added emphasis. Add them every two or three pages – that will add meat to your document, while cluing your reader in to the important points you are presenting.
Use your e-book to tell the readers about other products you offer. One of the biggest reasons to publish an ebook is to inform your audience about what you have to offer. Add a list of products, complete with clickable links, so your readers can find those products. Three-dimensional cover shots will add visual interest, bulk up your content, and increase sales. It’s easy to do – if you can’t do it, find someone who can.
Include cheat sheets and checklists for your customers – they really love it! If your topic has more than two or three steps, consider a checklist. It’s a great way to convey information, especially on technical topics (using a digital camera; interview tips; great tips for buying a new home). Cheat sheets and checklists make this information easy to follow, increasing value for your readers.
Are there other tools that could help your readers? Some things to consider include sample forms, spread sheets, contracts, and more. Your customer simply fills in the blanks. These can be important additions when you are writing an ebook.
By following these few simple tips, you can beef up your ebook and provide great value to your readers. People are willing to pay more for a good value, and your great new e-book will sell more because of word-of-mouth advertising. It’s a win-win situation for you and your audience!
